Newington Green Alliance aims to improve life in the Newington Green Area by helping people to develop a strong community connecting everyone in our area. A strong community is sometimes referred to as high social capital. Community is surprisingly powerful. Research has shown that strengthening community leads to better mental health, greater happiness, better educational achievement, greater economic strength and it reduces isolation and crime.
Community makes it possible for people to help one another, to discover their own strength, and to build more strength together. To learn more about the positive impacts of building community, you might want to read one or more of these books:
- Community: The Structure of Belonging, by Peter Block
- Bowling Alone: The Collapse and Revival of American Community, by Robert D. Putnam
- Better Together: Restoring the American Community, by Robert D. Putnam, Lewis Feldstein, Donald J. Cohen
